Cynthia Serafin is a self-taught artist and musician, whose creative work represents a decades-long exploration of the powerful tides of emotion and psyche.
For Cynthia, art is equal parts therapy and divination, finding passages deep into the self’s conscious and subconscious realms. Her work ranges from intense, vibrant acrylics to monochrome charcoal sketches, and from understated indie folk songs to gloom-laden poetry. All of these paths lead back to the same questions: what am I feeling? How can I make sense of this? Who am I, right at this moment?
Through her works, viewers are invited to ask the same questions of themselves, to look for traces of themselves within these paintings, to see themselves through the lens of mania and depression, to immerse themselves fighting for control upon the battlefield of the mind.
This search for meaning and connection offers viewers a unique look into bipolarity – and to see their own reflections within.
